To begin any piece, the first thing that you’ll need to do is cast on stitches.Start with a long strand of yarn. The length will depend on the number of stitches you need to cast on.
Take a needle and hold it with your right arm so that your hands are free.
Make a slip knot. To do so:Take a strand of yarn with both hands and wrap it around your right middle and index fingers.
With your left hand hold the loop. Then insert your right thumb and index finger through the loop to grab the yarn below.
Pull the yarn up through the loop, and hold the yarn with your right index finger. You’ve now made a slip knot and your first stitch.
Place the loop on the needle under your arm and pull the yarn to adjust it onto the needle.
Now you can start to cast on stitches. Remember not to pull the yarn too tightly because it will make it more difficult to knit.
Hold a strand of yarn in each hand.Wrap the yarn around your right index finger to make a loop.
Lay the yarn in your left hand over the needle
and pass the loop over the yarn and off the tip of the needle,
remove your finger and gently pull the yarn in your right hand to tighten the stitch onto the needle.
Wrap the yarn around your right index finger, place the loop on the needle,
Lay the yarn in your left hand over the needle,
pass the loop over the yarn and off the tip of the needle,
remove your finger and tighten the stitch.
